Peter Coe and Sabra Coe Young have just returned from a trip to Greece sponsored by HEPO, a Greek organization whose goal is to educate the world about the versatility of Greek foods and the amazing health benefits of a Mediterranean diet.
The trip was attended by the top specialty food retail companies and restaurants throughout the world.
Peter looks forward to presenting a Greek menu in his fall cooking class series this fall. In addition, he is researching the best of the wines he tasted to bring those into the Taste closest to you.
Sabra is gathering information for you on some unique Greek products you will not want to miss. Some of the items you can expect to see in our stores soon (if they are not already there) include some wonderful Greek Feta, Total Greek Yougurt (try it drizzled with honey and almonds and you will start to see the blue Mediterranean water appear before you), Renieris Estate Olive Oil, a staple in both Peter and Sabra's kitchen's and some new snack foods.
Summer Greek food suggestions:
Watermelon slices served with Feta
Did you know that Feta must be made of 70% Sheep's milk to be called Feta? The remaining percentage is Goat's Milk. The higher percentage of Sheep's milk the sharper (versus creamer) the taste of the Feta.
Honeydew Melon and Feta Soup
3/4th Melon to ¼ Feta, put it in a blender with dash of pepper and you have an instant summer soup.
Greek Salad
Did you know that a traditional Greek Salad contains no lettuce? It consist of these standard ingredients: Feta, Tomatoes, Green Peppers, Cucumbers, Olive Oil, Oregano and Kalamata Olives.
