Press Release

Taste Unlimited to Consolidate Norfolk Locations

July 16, 2008 - Virginia Beach, VA

Taste Unlimited® announced today that it will close its Downtown Norfolk café, located inside of Prince Books, on July 31, 2008.  Taste™ has operated the café for the past six years and opted not to renew its sublease with the Bookstore, choosing instead to consolidate operations with Taste’s Ghent location less than 2 miles away.

Because Taste™ offers free deliveries to downtown from its Ghent location, service to downtown businesses will be uninterrupted.  Co-owner Jon Pruden commented, “This change really affects only our walk in guests and we are hopeful that they too will rely on free delivery to get Taste™ sandwiches delivered directly to their offices.”

At 650 square feet, the downtown café is approximately one-fifth the size of an average Taste Unlimited® and the only limited service operation among Taste’s seven locations.  Pruden added, “We are making a strategic decision to focus our attention on the larger format stores, where we can offer a full complement of lunch, prepared foods, gourmet products and catering.”

Bill Prince, brother to Prince Books owner Sarah Pishko, intends to operate another outlet for his Leaping Lizard café in the Taste™ space.  Prince previously operated a coffeehouse in the same space before Taste Unlimited took over in 2002.  Pruden commented, “We are delighted that things worked out the way they did and the Bookstore will continue to have a complementary dining option for its customers.”  A September opening for the new Leaping Lizard café is planned.
